US House Democrats have released previously unseen images from Jeffrey Epstein’s private Caribbean island, offering a “harrowing” look inside the property once linked to the convicted sex offender’s trafficking network.

The House Oversight Committee published the photos and videos on Wednesday evening (US time). The material, sourced from US Virgin Islands law enforcement, provides a rare view of what Epstein’s living spaces looked like on Little St James in 2020 – a year after his death in custody.

The images show a series of interior rooms, including bedrooms, bathrooms, a landline phone, and what appears to be an office or library. An image of a chalkboard with words such as “fin”, “intellectual”, “deception” and “power” is also pictured.

Another photo shows a room with a dentist’s chair and masks mounted on the walls. The New York Times has previously reported that Epstein’s final girlfriend was a dentist tied to one of his shell companies.

Little St James, sometimes referred to by locals as “pedophile island”, is one of two islands Epstein owned in the US Virgin Islands. The territory has remained central to investigations into his conduct over several decades.

In 2022, the US Virgin Islands attorney general secured a settlement of more than $100 million ($A150 million) from Epstein’s estate after allegations that “dozens of young women and children were trafficked, raped, sexually assaulted and held captive in the Virgin Islands at Epstein’s secluded private island, Little St James”.

While the newly released images do not provide fresh evidence, Democrats say they underscore ongoing efforts to scrutinise the Trump Administration and to push for full transparency ahead of a December 19 Justice Department deadline to release federal Epstein files. President Donald Trump signed legislation last month requiring those documents to be made public.

“These new images are a disturbing look into the world of Jeffrey Epstein and his island. We are releasing these photos and videos to ensure public transparency in our investigation and to help piece together the full picture of Epstein’s horrific crimes. We won’t stop fighting until we deliver justice for the survivors,” Robert Garcia, the ranking member on the House oversight committee, said.

“Oversight Dems have received never-before-seen photos and videos of Jeffrey Epstein’s private island that are a harrowing look behind Epstein’s closed doors,” the committee wrote on social media.

“See for yourself. We won’t stop fighting until we end this cover-up and deliver justice for the survivors.”

A Democratic committee aide told CNN the material was captured entirely on Little St James. The committee has already released tens of thousands of documents related to Epstein as part of its broader investigation.

Members have also turned their attention to Britain’s Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, criticising what they describe as his “silence” after a request for a “transcribed interview” about his “long-standing friendship” with Epstein.

“Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s silence in the face of the Oversight Democrat’s demand for testimony speaks volumes,” the committee stated last month.

“The documents we’ve reviewed, along with public records and Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s testimony, raise serious questions he must answer, yet he continues to hide.

“Our work will move forward with or without him, and we will hold anyone who was involved in these crimes accountable, no matter their wealth, status, or political party. We will get justice for the survivors.”

Epstein died by suicide in a New York prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking and conspiracy charges.
