A mum has sparked outrage online after her “surprise” stunt at her daughter’s gender reveal completely backfired, with thousands of viewers accusing her of being “narcissistic” and attention-seeking.
U.S. couple Gianna Wulf, 23, and her husband, 46, were celebrating their baby’s gender reveal surrounded by friends and family in their backyard.
The couple were holding a confetti cannon and smiling for the cameras as they prepared for the big reveal, when Gianna’s mum suddenly stepped forward and climbed onto a raised area of the garden and stood above everyone else, with her own balloon.
When Gianna asked what she was doing, her mum brushed her off and told them to continue.
Moments later, the couple popped their cannons and Gianna’s burst pink, while her husband’s exploded with blue leaving them both confused, as they weren’t expecting twins.
Gianna’s mum then popped her own balloon, sending out pink confetti and announcing that the couple were actually having a girl.

While the crowd cheered, viewers online noticed Gianna’s smile fade as she realised her mum had stolen her spotlight.
The clip, captioned “POV: your mum had to make your gender reveal about her”, has since been viewed more than 27 million times, with most comments blasting the mother’s behaviour.
“She did an unexpected twist, which is common in gender reveals, no?” one person wrote, only to be met with replies like, “No, she took a moment to herself. Popping a balloon isn’t unexpected.”
“If a couple wants a twist, then they’ll ask for it,” another said. “The mum made it about her since the ones going to reveal the gender were supposed to be the parents.”
“She organised it and GAVE HERSELF a balloon to pop … jeez,” one user pointed out, while another wrote simply, “Wow, what a nightmare, I’m so sorry.”
“Why did she reveal YOUR baby?” someone else asked.
It wasn’t the last time Gianna’s mum caused a stir.
In another viral video shared by the couple, she gave her granddaughter an unapproved “first haircut,” leaving the toddler with a lopsided mullet, with the excuse of “trying to get the bangs out of her face” and sparking more backlash online
“The fact she actually did this is insane,” one commenter wrote.
“Overstepping boundaries,” another added.
Others didn’t hold back, urging Gianna to “go no contact” and “move far away.”
