A manhunt is underway in Melbourne’s southeast after a couple were threatened and held at gunpoint during a home invasion in Clyde North.

The incident occurred about 2.20am last Friday, when two masked offenders allegedly forced their way into the property and assaulted the residents as they attempted to resist.

One of the victims, 58-year-old Rodney, was smoking in the garage when the attackers allegedly crawled inside through a partially open door and demanded the keys to the couple’s Lexus hatchback.

When he refused, the offenders allegedly assaulted him, knocking him unconscious and leaving him bleeding on the ground.

The pair then moved through the house and entered a bedroom where Rodney’s partner, 59-year-old Annie-Maureen, was sleeping.

Police allege the offenders turned on the lights, pointed firearms at Annie-Maureen and again demanded the car keys, before searching drawers downstairs.

The intruders located a spare set of keys but fled after Annie-Maureen emerged from the bedroom armed with a baseball bat.

The offenders attempted to steal the Lexus but were unable to do so due to a steering wheel lock. They then fled the scene in a maroon sedan, taking the spare car key, Rodney’s wallet and the garage remote.

Detective Senior Constable Candice Taylor described the attack as cowardly.

“It’s deplorable. It’s actually disgraceful,” she said.

Annie-Maureen described the offenders as the “absolute scum of the earth”.

“We just think, you know, how dare you disturb us in our own home and threaten to kill us and have guns in our faces,” she said.

No arrests have been made.

Police have released two computer-generated images of the offenders, who are described as Caucasian, with one believed to be in his late teens and the other in his early 20s.

Investigators believe additional offenders may have been involved.

The maroon getaway vehicle was last seen travelling towards Pattersons Rd.
