Meghan Markle is set to return to acting eight years after she stepped away from Hollywood to become a working royal.

She is reported to be starring in a new film alongside Lily Collins, Brie Larson and Jack Quaid.

Meghan will reportedly play herself in the movie Close Personal Friends, which follows two couples where one partner is famous and the other is not.

She was seen on set in Pasadena, Los Angeles, working on the Amazon MGM Studios production.

A source told The Sun, “This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves.

“She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right.

“Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”

Meghan is best known for her role as Rachel Zane in the US legal drama Suits. She also appeared in Horrible BossesGet Him To The Greek and Remember Me.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020 and relocated to the US.

The Duchess of Sussex has previously said she faced significant challenges in her early acting career. She explained she regularly received auditions but was often rejected by directors, which was a “lot to chip away at your self-esteem”.

Before gaining recognition on Suits, Meghan was a “briefcase girl” on the US version of Deal Or No Deal.

Industry observers have suggested the former royal may be facing difficulty establishing “where she really fits” while balancing her As Ever lifestyle brand, public appearances and her ambitions within the fashion sector.

She has also acknowledged in a recent podcast that she had “sometimes” missed acting.

In 2015, she wrote in a blog post about how Suits changed her life, saying, “I remember that day like it was yesterday. My cheeks still hurt from how hard I smiled.”

However, as her relationship with Prince Harry progressed and became public towards the end of 2016, her future on the series became uncertain.

Biographer Tom Bower wrote in his 2022 book Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors that writer Aaron Korsh expected to remove her character at the end of the 2017 season.

With her future as a royal emerging and changes planned for the show, Rachel Zane was expected to leave New York. Bower, who said he spoke to 80 people close to the couple, wrote that her agent Nick Collins was “not encouraging” when told the news.

He added, “No film producer was offering her any major roles and no serious Hollywood director spoke about featuring Meghan in his movie or TV series. Just as she feared, her acting career was stymied. Her income after 2017 would plummet.”

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has written a Remembrance Day essay reflecting on “the banter” and “bravery” that make him proud to be British.

The Duke of Sussex expressed pride in the “stoic spirit” and humour of “us Brits,” stating the UK will “always be the country I proudly served” despite his move to the US in 2020.

He wrote that “the banter of the mess, the clubhouse, the pub, the stands” represents “the things that make us British” and added, “I love it.”

Prince Harry paid tribute to the privilege of serving with personnel “from all four corners of the UK” but warned that veterans are easily forgotten “once the uniform comes off”.

He urged the public to remember “not only the fallen, but the living” who carry the “weight of war,” encouraging people to visit veterans and “join them for a cuppa…or a pint” to acknowledge their continuing service.

In a personal 647-word piece titled The Bond, The Banter, The Bravery: What It Means To Be British – By Prince Harry, he stated that although he “currently” lives in the US, “Britain is, and always will be, the country I proudly served and fought for”.

His comments were released ahead of a two-day visit to Toronto, where he will meet Canadian veterans, armed forces personnel and military charities during Remembrance tide, the period leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

The message coincided with the Prince of Wales’ overseas visit to Brazil for the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.
