Detectives have charged a 34-year-old man with murdering his ex-wife and breaching a domestic violence order.

He is also accused of breaching a bail condition, although no further details have been revealed around this charge.

The man currently remains under police guard in the burns unit of the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after he was found two blocks away from the backyard with burn injuries.

The man is unable to apply for bail and is formally remanded in custody until June 4th.

“So that is the subject of one of the avenues of our ongoing investigation into this matter,” Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn told reporters.

Mother-of-three Kelly Wilkinson was found in the backyard by police after neighbours reported raised voices coming from the home around 6:40am.

“It was obviously a very confronting scene, a female person deceased in the rear yard of a residence, apparently suffering from burn-type injuries,” Ahearn said.

Police are currently speaking with local residents and have stopped rubbish collections as potential evidence might have been dumped in a bin.

A  GoFundMe  page has been set up to help the three children as well as pay for Wilkinson’s funeral and has received more than $80,000 in donations.

“Please help us! We appreciate any help no matter how big or small,” organiser of the fundraiser Natalie Wilkinson said.

“I’m so heartsick over your tragic loss. I pray for your family Kelly, your children and extended family that they will have courage and strength in the days ahead,” one person wrote alongside their donation.
