Today host Clint Stanaway has announced he is leaving Channel 9, closing out a career with the network spanning nearly 25 years.

The 42-year-old sports and news journalist is best known as co-host of Weekend Today and weekend sports presenter on 9News Melbourne

He confirmed the move in a statement on September 9, 2025, explaining his plans to shift the focus to radio full-time.

Clint has read the news on Melbourne’s Jase & Lauren breakfast show since 2021, first on KIIS before following the team to Nova in 2024.

Juggling that role alongside his television commitments earned him a reputation as one of the hardest-working talents in the industry, but he revealed he’s seeking “a better work/life balance.”

“I’ve always treasured my job, be it on 9News, as co-host of Weekend Today or as part of the Wide World of Sports team. I’ve met so many wonderful people, shared some incredible stories and experienced the most unforgettable moments. The thrill of live television is so addictive, it’ll never leave me,” he said.

“It’s been a huge workload juggling both TV and being part of the Melbourne Nova breakfast team over the past couple of years. I am passionate about my newfound love for radio and have decided to give it priority moving forward, while I also look to strike a better work/life balance. Unfortunately, that means leaving Nine at the end of the year.

“While I step away with a heavy heart, I suspect it won’t be forever. The Nine family has been so good to me, and for that I’ll be forever thankful.”

Stanaway began his TV career at WIN in Bendigo before joining 9News as a reporter in 2005. He later became weekend sports presenter and, in 2019, joined Weekend Today as sports presenter.

Four years later, he was promoted to co-host alongside Jayne Azzopardi, who has since been replaced by Alison Piotrowski.

Nine’s National News Director Hugh Nailon praised Stanaway’s career as “a stellar example of what can be achieved through sheer hard work and dedication.”

“From the news library to the host chair of Weekend Today, he has excelled in every role,” Nailon said.

“He’s a brilliant journalist and storyteller, and an equally brilliant presenter. He has a terrific instinct for a story and has been a wonderful mentor to many in our newsroom. While he will be sorely missed by the Nine family, we wish him every success in his next chapter and thank him for his outstanding service.”
