Kia Australia has issued a nationwide product safety recall covering nine different model lines after identifying a problem that can affect the instrument cluster display. The issue involves the screen that shows vital driving and safety information such as your speed, warning lights and other alerts.
In its recall notice, Kia said, “Due to a software error, the Instrument Cluster may display a blank screen or may not operate as intended,” which means some drivers could be left without the usual information they rely on while the car is in motion.
Kia also warned that the problem isn’t just an inconvenience. “A blank or slow-responding instrument cluster screen fails to display critical information such as the speedometer or warning lights increasing the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
A total of 11,567 vehicles produced in 2025 are affected. The recall applies to the following Kia models: K4, Sportage, Sorento, Carnival, EV3, EV5, EV6, EV9 and Tasman.
Kia has supplied a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list so owners can confirm whether their particular vehicle is included, and the original recall notice is also available for those who want the full detail of the safety alert.
If your vehicle is affected, Kia is advising owners to contact their local Kia dealership to book in for a fix. The solution is a software update to the Instrument Cluster Control Unit, and Kia says it will be carried out free of charge.
For more information or help checking whether your vehicle is included, owners can contact Kia Customer Service on 131 542 or email customer_service@kia.com.au.
