Australian television star John Burgess has been admitted to the intensive care unit, after being rushed to Royal Perth Hospital on Wednesday night.

The 78-year-old is said to be in a stable condition with his wife by his side as he receives treatment for a bacterial infection.

Known to many simply as ‘Burgo,’ the media star became a household name hosting Channel Seven’s Wheel of Fortune for more than a decade in the ‘80s and ‘90s. He is now a radio presenter with Perth station 6iX.

Burgess’ manager Evan Broadway told The West Australian newspaper that the star is due to be discharged on Friday.

“He wanted to work Saturday, and we said ‘nah mate have the weekend off, just take the day off,’” Mr Broadway said.

“But that’s just how loyal he is to his listeners.”
