Meghan Markle’s father has been hospitalised after reportedly falling ill at his home in the Philippines.

Thomas Markle, 81, has has undergone emergency surgery and is in intensive care, his son Thomas Markle Jr confirmed.

“I took dad to a hospital close to our home and they did various scans and the doctors said his life was in imminent danger,” he told the Daily Mail.

“They raced us by ambulance, with the sirens going, to a much bigger hospital in the centre of the city. My dad has undergone emergency surgery.

“I would ask everyone around the world to keep him in their thoughts.”

Markle is now waiting to have another operation to remove a blood clot.

Meghan’s half-sister Samantha added: “He is a strong man, but he has been through so much. I am praying that he is strong enough to survive this.

“My father has been through two heart attacks, a stroke and an earthquake. I hope he can pull through this”.

The senior has had two heart attacks and a stroke in the past, and due to his heart issues, he could not attend his daughter’s wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

Meghan and her father have been estranged since then, after he posed for paparazzi pictures ahead of the wedding and had reportedly put the phone down during a heated row with Harry when the Duke confronted him about not speaking to the press.

“I felt disrespected by them. I was recovering from a heart attack, lying in a bed, having a phone call, and the things were being said that hurt me,” Thomas Markle told The Sun On Sunday at the time.

“I felt like I was being blamed for my mistakes when I was in my hospital bed recovering from a heart attack.”

“My only wish is that Meghan shows my father some compassion. He is literally fighting for his life,” Meghan’s brother added.
