Meg Ryan has shared a heartbreaking tribute to Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner, days after he and his wife Michele Singer were found murdered inside their home.

The actress who starred in one of Reiner’s most iconic films, When Harry Met Sally, shared her grief on social media.

“Oh how we will miss this man…,” she began in the post, alongside a photo of her and Reiner dancing.

“Thank you, Rob and Michele, for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised …” Ryan continued in her post.

“I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

The Hollywood icon and his wife were found dead at their home in LA on Sunday, with their 28-year-old daughter, Romy, making the grim discovery.

The couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Ryan’s When Harry Met Sally co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to the filmmaker in a joint statement with other comedic greats including Albert Brooks, Martin Short and Larry David.

They described him as  “a master storyteller” in the statement released by The Associated Press.

“There is no other director who has his range. From comedy to drama to ‘mockumentary’ to documentary he was always at the top of his game. He charmed audiences. They trusted him. They lined up to see his films”.

“If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process,” the statement continued. “They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.

“There is a line from one of Rob’s favourite films, It’s a Wonderful Life, ‘Each man’s life touches so many other lives, and when he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?’ You have no idea.”

Romy and her brother Jake Reiner broke their silence in a heartfelt statement on Thursday.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” the wrote in a joint statement.

“The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

The pair added they were “grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.”

“We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave,” they concluded.
