Sarah Abo has announced that she is having a baby with husband Cyrus Moran.
The Today show host shared the emotional news on-air Wednesday morning, and opened up about her struggle to conceive.
“Cyrus and I are expecting a little baby,” Abo said.
The show host became emotional as she recalled the difficult journey.
“I know it’s obviously very happy news, but it hasn’t been the easiest journey to get here, which I know a lot of our beautiful viewers out there have been through this and are feeling this right now, because it’s not as easy as some might think pregnancy is.
“It’s been a bit of a bumpy ride, but here we are and it’s getting harder to hide.”
She made a heartbreaking admission that this time last year she went through a pregnancy loss, and experienced another one prior to that.
Abo then revealed that she is expecting a little boy and is almost at her halfway mark.
“I think that’s also why I’ve been so cautious about sharing this news, which obviously I’m so thrilled to be sharing with you all, but I’m still terrified,” she said, wiping away tears.
“I’m still finding it hard to believe that it’s happening and I will lean in and enjoy it, but a lot of people understand what it’s like to have this cautious optimism.”
She also hopes that in sharing her news she could help other women who have struggled to conceive.
Abo’s co-star Karl Stefanovic became emotional as he congratulated her.
“I know you’ve been super nervous about this,” he said.
“I work next to you every day and I know you had some dramas and last year you had so much crap written about you in the newspapers and it was around that time and you didn’t tell anyone and still came to work.
“And your strength and courage going through that was unbelievable, that you fought through that on your own – with only a couple of other people knowing.”
Stefanovic empathised with his co-star, revealing that he and his wife Jasmine had also experienced a few miscarriages.
“A lot of people won’t know this because Jas is a very private person, but we lost a couple as well and you sit there as a man and think ‘what could I have done? What did I do wrong?’ And all those questions enter your mind,” he said.
Abo admitted that she had kept her pregnancy quiet and waited as long as she could before telling her family and friends.
“It wasn’t until we were confident with our most recent test that we felt we could tell our parents, but it was so beautiful to share the news,” she said.
“When you’re a 40-year-old woman and pregnant for the first time this far along, it doesn’t happen overnight.
“But Cyrus is so, so happy and he is going to be the most beautiful father and we already love this child so much, he is coming into a world that adores him.”
