Neighbours fans now have the chance to own a piece of television history, with one of the show’s most recognisable props up for auction to support a good cause.
Dementia Australia is auctioning the well-known portrait of Mrs Nell Mangel, a long-running visual gag from the series, to raise funds for people living with dementia and their families.
The painting, created by the character Helen Daniels (Anne Haddy) in 1987, became a memorable fixture on Ramsay Street after Mrs Mangel famously described it as “a monstrosity”.
After the show’s final episode in December 2025, the artwork was gifted to actor Annie Jones, who played Jane Harris – Mrs Mangel’s granddaughter – before being donated for the fundraiser.
“Supporting people living with dementia, their families and carers is something I care deeply about,” Annie explained.
“I also can’t wait to see the reactions from fans and see where this beloved painting ends up going.”
The piece has been signed by several cast members, including Jackie Woodburne, Takaya Honda and Rebekah Elmaloglou, and comes with a letter from producer Andrew Thompson and a certificate of authenticity.
For Dementia Australia, the auction offers both a fundraising opportunity and a way to connect with long-time viewers.
“For many Australians and fans around the world, Neighbours was a part of daily life for decades,” Dr Kaele Stokes the Executive Director Services, Engagement and Research at Dementia Australia said.
“Now, fans can own an iconic piece of the show’s history while helping to support families impacted by dementia, which is the leading cause of death in Australia.”
At the time of writing, bidding had reached $10,300, with the auction set to close at 9am AEST on May 4, 2026.
