Dame Judi Dench has shared a heartbreaking health update – she has completely lost her eyesight.

The 90-year-old actress shared the daily challenges she faces with her health, as she spoke to crowds at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds, where she serves as a patron.

“I can’t see any more,” Dame Judi said.

“When I go to the theatre, I can’t see. Hopeless.”

The Shakespeare in Love actress first spoke about her age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in 2012.

Last January, in an episode of Trinny Woodall’s Fearless podcast she shared an update and revealed that she needs to have someone accompany her at all times.

“Somebody will always be with me. I have to now because I can’t see and I will walk into something or fall over,” she said on the podcast.

“I’m always nervous before going to something.”

This week, she admitted she hadn’t been able to actually see her friend Dame Celia Imrie on the the latest BBC series Celebrity Traitors.

“Somebody told me what was happening. I want to hear the dirt that went on,” she said.

Dame Judi is best known for her role as M on nine James Bond films. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Shakespeare in Love in 1999.
