Veteran Aussie TV favourite Ray Meagher has sparked a hilarious on-air moment after delivering a very Alf Stewart-esque warning to his radio hosts, “You’ll be hearing from my lawyers.”

The Home and Away icon was asked to perform a rendition of UK singer Raye’s Where The Hell Is My Husband? – but Meagher shut that idea down immediately.

Co-host Kate Ritchie, who played Sally Fletcher on Home and Away for two decades, chimed in to set the record straight.

“I didn’t know about this, by the way,” Ritchie said.

Meagher, slipping effortlessly into his famously cranky Alf Stewart persona, wasn’t having a bar of it.

“These people asked me if I’d sing a song by somebody who I’d never heard of,” he said.

“The rattiest lot of dialogue, tripe I’ve ever heard. Nah, you’ve stitched me up.”

Ritchie stressed she had nothing to do with the prank, while her Nova 96.9 co-hosts Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald and Michael “Wippa” Wipfli collapsed into laughter.

The hosts then played Raye’s song – hilariously remixed with Alf’s classic lines, including “flamin’ mongrels”, “what’s all that racket about?” and “long-haired yahoos”.

Meagher seemed amused by the special Alf-themed version, joking at the end, “You’ll be hearing from my lawyers.”

The actor, who has been with Channel 7’s long-running soap for almost 40 years, also chatted about whether former co-star Ritchie might ever return to Summer Bay.

“We’ve touched on it a couple of times on the show recently and there’s a small dream, I think, on behalf of Australia …” Wipfli said.

“You talk about Brax returning and the River Boys, but imagine in 2026 if Kate Ritchie returned to the Bay.”

Ritchie looked mortified and asked him why he would even bring it up.

“Because you’ve never clearly said no,” Wipfli replied.

Fitzgerald then suggested Meagher could put in a quiet word with the show’s producers.

“I’ve never been to the producers about a storyline for me, but I’d make an exception in Kate’s case and go and have a yarn to them,” Meagher said.

Sally Fletcher famously left Summer Bay in 2008 but returned briefly in 2013.

This week marks the 2025 season finale of Home and Away, which will centre on a catastrophic train crash.

At least one character will die, though the show is keeping tight-lipped about whether it’s a beloved veteran or a newer face.

Meagher described the finale as “scary” during the interview.

“I’ve heard a lot of people describe Home and Away as a train crash … but I can honestly say for a two-and-a-half-hour-a-week production, this is absolutely amazing, it’s so well done,” he said.

“There are a lot of very key characters involved – and on the train that crashes. So will they all make it out? Will some survive? Will one return? Who knows.”

Ritchie then asked whether Meagher himself would be on the train – but fans can relax.

“He couldn’t make that trip,” Meagher confirmed.
