Sydney police are still on the lookout for a gunman who shot and wounded a man in terrifying proximity to a two-year-old’s birthday party.

The incident unfolded at 2:40 pm on Sunday March 20, right outside a home on Bletchley Place in Hebersham in the Western Suburbs of Sydney.

A 39-year-old man was shot multiple times, and later underwent emergency surgical procedures at Westmead Hospital. Paramedic crews and a rescue helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

“I heard the first two shots and I jumped up on the fence to see what was going on,” Damien – the child’s father, who witnessed the shooting take place, told  Nine News.

“I’ve seen someone lean out the [car] window with a shotgun and firing at the guy laying on the ground.
“We got everyone inside. I then went to come out of the gate and realised they were still there.”
Damien reported that the injured man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds in his arms, legs and head.

“When I went down there he had holes all through him, all through his arms, legs, even one in his head,” he said.

Kevin McSweeney, a NSW ambulance inspector, said the victim suffered two gunshot wounds. “One to his right shoulder and one to his left leg”.

This is believed to be a targeted attack. Police are still investigating and working to identify the gunman.
