One of Scott Morrison’s most vocal critics Grace Tame, has offered the Prime Minister a rare compliment.

The former Australian of the Year    appeared on the  Betoota Advocate’s podcast Decode  on Monday to cover a range of topics in the lead-up to the election.

During the conversation, Grace offered Morrison an out-of-pocket nod.

“He’s quite intelligent. I’ll give him that,” Tame said.

But the compliment was swiftly followed by a jab at the PM’s expense.

“No one can be the leader of a country without having intelligence and skills and mastery, at least, of manipulation.”

She went on to double-down on the sledge, saying he’d waged “petty vendettas” against his opponents.

Grace also addressed the now infamous side-eye she gave the PM at the  Australian of the Year finalists’ function in January, which has been immortalised in a series of photos.

Tame, a survivor of child sexual abuse, said that Morrison was “entitled” by expecting her to smile.

“The problem with Scott Morrison – his entitlement,” she told the podcast.

“’I’m the prime minister, and she should smile at me because I’m the Prime Minister’.”

After the incident at the Lodge, Morrison addressed Grace’s choice not to smile, saying he supported her advocacy work, but the event was not about her.

“When Jenny and I invite someone to our home, we greet them with a smile and they’re always welcome, and that day was actually about all the finalists that we came to celebrate,” Morrison told  4BC.

“That day was all about them.

“I haven’t raised any issues about (it) – all I’m saying is we were there that day to celebrate those who had done an incredible job for our country.”
