Gogglebox Australia star Anastasia Katselas has revealed she was recently rushed to hospital and underwent an emergency hysterectomy after being diagnosed with cancer.
Katselas, who has appeared on the popular reality series alongside friend Faye since its debut a decade ago, opened up about her health struggles in an emotional video posted to Instagram late Friday.
Describing the experience as a “big scare”, she said she was hospitalised last Tuesday after doctors discovered cancer in her uterus. “So I had an emergency hysterectomy. I’m fine, I’m just a bit sore … I’m home now,” she said, sharing that she spent two nights in hospital.
While expressing relief that the cancer was caught early, Katselas urged women to stay on top of their health. “Thank God they caught it early and I’m fine. But I urge all you women, make sure that you do your Pap smears regularly. Don’t wait, don’t forget about it,” she said.
Katselas admitted she had stopped regular screenings in recent years, explaining that her diagnosis came after a routine check prompted by a concern. “I can’t remember the last time I went … I happened to go to the doctor because I had a concern and they did a pap smear and lo and behold, a week later I’m in hospital,” she said.
She added that her doctors have indicated the cancer had not spread, though she is still awaiting follow-up tests. “I’m still waiting for the after-surgery tests … hopefully I’ll be OK,” Katselas said.
Fans and fellow reality TV stars have rallied around Katselas since her post, offering messages of support and encouragement during her recovery.
