An Australia Post driver in South Australia has been praised for his kindness, after a sweet photo of him interacting with a pup went viral on social media.

The postie named Clint, was pictured greeting a friendly kelpie that waits for him by the footpath each day while he does his deliveries.

The pup’s owner posted the image to Facebook, praising the delivery driver for his “fantastic service”.

“Nearly every day my postie stops and says hi, and has a Schmacko for our kelpie who greets him with such loud enthusiasm the neighbourhood hears,” she wrote.

The post has since been liked more than 5,000 times, with hundreds of comments of Aussie residents with similar experiences.

Residents from Caboolture in Queensland, Rowville in Victoria and Coledale in New South Wales all talked about their pup-loving posties, who would happily pet their dogs during delivery.

“We had 2 posties at Coledale did the same with our kelpie and Chihuahua they would wait out front for him and follow him down the street they always had treats for them they loved it,” one person wrote.

“Our postie has treats for all the dogs, they love her,” another commented.

An Australia Post spokesperson told Yahoo News posties are a “familiar and trusted presence in communities across Australia”.

“While many of our team members develop positive relationships with animals along their route, all interactions are managed in line with strict safety protocols to protect our people, customers and their pets,” they said.

While many commented that their local delivery drivers often greeted their pets with a treat, this kind act is actually against protocols according to the spokesperson.

“Posties must follow clear safety guidelines when approaching properties with dogs and are not permitted to carry or give dog treats,” they said.
