Eric Dane’s widow has broken her silence just days after the Grey’s Anatomy star’s death.

On Sunday, Rebecca Gayheart thanked family, friends and fans for their support via her Instagram stories.

“I am so blown away by the outpouring of love and support from our community,” she wrote.

“There aren’t words to express our gratitude. You are truly holding us up during this difficult time.”

Dane passed away on Thursday, US local time, following a 10-month battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was 53.

Dane and Gayheart had split in 2018 after 13 years of marriage, with the actress later filing for divorce. In March 2025, just one month before the actor went public with his ALS diagnosis, she withdrew her divorce petition.

The pair remained close and share daughters Billie, 15 and Georgia, 14, who they co-parented up until his death.

A GoFundMe was set up to support their two daughters, with over $US290,000 raised from the initial $US250,000.

Friends and fellow celebrities were among those who donated, including Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, who donated $US27,000 and director Brad Falchuk who donated $US10,000.

“I’m heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric,” Levinson said in a statement to Variety after Dane’s death was announced.

“Working with him was an honour. Being his friend was a gift. Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing.”
