Dancing With The Stars favourite Witney Carson has opened up about a challenging flight home after visiting Australia, revealing her young children were asked to “be quiet” during the long-haul journey.

The 32-year-old dancer, who recently travelled to Australia with her husband Carson McAllister and their sons Kevin, 5, and Jet, 2, following her DWTS win with Robert Irwin, recounted the experience in a series of Instagram stories on Sunday.

“Question for you guys, and be honest – is it appropriate to ask for a child to be quiet for the entire 13-hour flight?” Carson wrote.

She explained that her youngest son was playing and laughing when another passenger raised concerns.

“Jet was playing and giggling with me and we were asked to be quiet because a man up in front said he was trying to rest.”

While Carson acknowledged the need for consideration during rest periods, she questioned the expectation placed on her children.

“I totally get if there needs to be a certain time where we need to sleep, but it’s in the middle of the day. I’m a big advocate of, ‘Worry about things that are in your control and put some freaking ear [plugs] in.’ Am I being crazy?” she said.

In a later post, Carson claimed a flight attendant repeatedly intervened.

“I got up and asked [the aircraft employee] if there were certain times on the flight we needed to be quiet and we’d respect that,” she wrote.

“If not, I don’t expect my children to sit quietly for 13 hours. OK, bye, I’m done.”

Carson did not disclose how the flight attendant responded but later thanked her followers for their support.

“Seems I’ve reached the right side of Instagram,” she wrote alongside a photo taken onboard the plane, “and I feel very validated. Thanks for letting me vent.”

“We ride at dawn,” she added.

Carson and her family were in Australia to visit Irwin following their victory on season 34 of Dancing With The Stars. During the trip, she also met Bindi Irwin – herself a former DWTS winner – and other members of the Irwin family at Australia Zoo.

“I’m a little emo writing this while driving away from the zoo,” Carson wrote in another post talking about the visit.

“Our time here at @australiazoo can only be described as magic. From meeting these incredible animals, to walking out of our cabin and seeing kangaroos every single morning, to experiencing so many firsts together as a family, this is something I’ll never forget.

“The biggest shoutout to @robertirwinphotography for putting so much energy and time into planning every detail and welcoming our family into your home. It was so fun to see you in your element, we are incredibly proud of you and everything you stand for.”
