Two people, including a general practitioner, have been charged with the attempted murder of a six-year-old girl.

Police allege that one of the child’s family members visited the GP clinic in Western Australia on January 17th to obtain a prescription for a drug that would end the child’s life.

It is also alleged that the doctor is aware of what the drug would be used for.

“It will be further alleged that person left the appointment with a prescription from the GP in order to be able to access a drug to be used to end the child’s life, and that the GP was aware of the intended use of the drug,” a  WA police spokesperson said.

After the girl became unwell in late January, another family member took the child to a medical centre, where she was stabilised before being flown to Perth’s Children’s Hospital.

“It will be alleged the child’s health had deteriorated as the result of being administered the drug that had been sought,” police said in a statement.

Police arrested and charged the 40-year-old female relative of the child with  attempting  to unlawfully kill the girl on Friday January 28th.

Police then arrested  the doctor and he was charged with the same offence  on Wednesday February 2nd.

Both suspects have been refused bail and are due to appear in court on February 16th.
