Dave Hughes has given fans an update on his health after being rushed to the ICU with serious injuries sustained during a charity footy match.

The comedian was playing in the AFL Legends Match for Prostate Cancer at Marvel Stadium when he was hit, suffering five broken ribs and a punctured lung.

In a post online, Hughes revealed he is now out of hospital and “all good,” while also sharing a recap of the game and the “humble superstars” he played alongside.

“I really did love playing the Legend’s Game,” he captioned a photo of himself in a wheelchair outside the hospital.

“Surrounded by humble superstars like Gary Ablett Jnr and Andrew McCleod. Sitting beside coach legend Tim Watson. With my mate, Blues King Kouta, his assistant. Watching wizardry of Cyril Rioli and Stevie J up close. Getting a lift to the game with the Fevolution then butchering his pass to me.

“Dropping a chest mark from a great pass from captain courageous Luke Hodge. Then breaking ribs in a fair clash with Eagles Norm Smith medalist the very funny, Andrew Embley.”

Hughesy added he got “surprised clobbered” by Dan Gorringe, yet he  still managed to kick a goal despite being dizzy from the pain in his ribs.

“Then Robbo exacting his revenge from when I bumped him earlier, which didn’t look like much but because of my state, hurt like hell,” he wrote.

He admitted taking himself off the field, saying he “thought one more hit might kill me,” and despite the crowd’s chants, he did not return.

Hughesy also posted, “Great care at Cabrini. I’m out and about now. Lots of contact with my Allies opponents. We are all good.”

But true to his comedic nature, he couldn’t resist a jab at his competitors, “Yes I’ve had 3 set shots in legend’s games and kicked 3 goals, the latest while carrying five broken ribs and a punctured lung. Thanks for asking,” he wrote.

Hughesy had joked at halftime that he felt like he had a punctured lung, but had no idea how serious it truly was.

A heavily medicated Hughesy gave a hospital update on Friday morning via Triple M’s Mick in the Morning and Fifi, Fev & Nick radio shows, admitting he thought he might die.

It was revealed he stayed at the after-party until 2am before his condition worsened, prompting his wife Holly to rush him to hospital at 5am.

“We’re in Cabrini Hospital. I’ve got five broken ribs and a punctured lung,” Hughesy told Molly and co-host Nick Riewoldt.

“At half-time, I was coming off the ground and I was like, ‘I feel like I have a punctured lung’, and I was joking, but no, I do.”

Hughesy later revealed live on air that he was being transported to the hospital’s intesive care unit.

Thankfully, the worst is behind him, and he’s now on the mend, no doubt with a story – and some stats – he’ll be sharing for the rest of his life.
