Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is in hospital after he fell in his home while getting ready on Tuesday morning.
His office told the ABC that while Mr Andrews did not have any head injuries, the fall was still “concerning”.
A spokesperson said the minister had taken precautions and had gone to hospital for x-rays.
Deputy Premier James Merlino took over Mr Andrews’ duties for the entirety of Tuesday, including the 9:30 am press conference in the north-east of Melbourne.
Mr Merlino revealed that Mr Andrews was still at the hospital undergoing “precautionary x-rays”.
“He’s fine and will be back on his feet very shortly,” he said, adding that it was a “nasty” fall.
Opposition Leader Michael O’Brien took to social media to send his best wishes to the Premier.
“Hope it’s not serious,” Mr O’Brien said on Twitter.
“Wishing Daniel a speedy recovery.”
Mr Andrews had taken leave from Friday afternoon, with the intention to return to his duties on Tuesday morning.
The 47-year-old is the leader of the Victorian Labor Party and has been since 2010.
Andrews became the Victorian Premier in 2014.
