A woman’s proposal was accidentally spoiled on a cruise, but the unexpected moment has turned into an unforgettable memory.
Amanda Bratton, 46, shared a video clip of the moment her proposal was spoiled by a waiter when she was onboard Carnival Breeze cruise in 2017.
“Throwback to when @carnival accidentally celebrated our engagement before the proposal,” she wrote in the video, which has since gone viral with over 2 million views.
In the video, Amanda is seen sitting at dinner with her family and friends when one of the waiters serves her a dessert with a candle on it, saying, “We’re going to sing ‘Happy engagement’.”
A confused Amanda can be seen looking around and laughing as she says “I’m not engaged,” while the staff members sing “Happy engagement to you.”
Her now husband, Gary Bratton III, proceeds to take a ring box out of a small and proposes before everyone around them starts cheering.
“He bought the ring from the jeweller on board, and the cake and song was all added,” Amanda told Newsweek.
“I think the wait staff was just trying to make it special, but he has no idea why they just randomly decided to sing and bring cake before he proposed.”

Despite the ruined surprise, the couple said it is one of their most cherished memories.
“ … It’s a story that has stuck with us through the years, and every time we recount it, we’re reminded of the joy and love surrounding that moment … This ‘pre-proposal’ celebration turned from an unintentional event into one of our favourite stories to tell,” Amanda wrote in the caption.
Thousands of people flooded her comments, with one writing: “Carnival owes you an engagement cruise.”
“Okay I know this wasn’t his vision but this is such a funny story. I hope you guys laugh about it now,” another person wrote.
“Waiter looking like why he proposing again if they’re already engaged? LMAO,” quipped another.
“Awww I feel so sad for him, but he handled it like a champ!” a fourth commented.
Amanda also said that her now husband handled the situation well, despite things not going according to plan.
“My husband isn’t one to do things publicly, so for him to plan this out and it go wrong was unfortunate,” she said.
“But it’s a total green flag that he handled it so well. He knew, if he reacted poorly, it would’ve stressed me out.”
