Australian Olympian Peter Bol has tied the knot with Mahtut Yaynu, his long-time partner and mother of their daughter, Reyna.
The middle-distance star shared the joyful news on Monday, posting a series of wedding photographs capturing the couple’s big day – from holding hands to dancing the night away.
“Crossed the finish line to forever,” Bol wrote alongside the photos.
Messages of congratulations poured in from fellow athletes, including sprinter Gout Gout, Olympic silver medallist Jessica Hull and boxer Harry Garside.
“Congrats big bro 🥳❤️,” Gout Gout commented.
“My man, congratulations ❤️❤️,” added Garside.
“Ahhhhhh congratulations guys!!! ❤️,” wrote Hull.
Bol rose to prominence at the Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first Australian in more than 50 years to reach an Olympic men’s 800-metre final.
Born in Sudan and raised in Perth after his family emigrated to Australia, Bol has since become one of the nation’s most admired athletes.
He is a four-time national champion and current Australian record holder over 800 metres, inspiring a new generation of runners.
Yaynu, who was born in Ethiopia and raised in Australia, holds degrees in psychology and criminology as well as an MBA. She now works in data methodology for the Australian Bureau of Statistics and has been a steadfast presence through Bol’s career highs and lows.
The pair first met as children after their families settled in the same Perth neighbourhood. Though they attended different schools, they remained part of the same social circles – eventually reconnecting years later in Melbourne, where their friendship blossomed into love.
After getting engaged in early 2024, the couple welcomed their daughter later that year, before celebrating their wedding surrounded by friends and family.
In a recent interview with The Fordham Company, Bol reflected on his evolving priorities.
“Athletics is such a beautiful part of my life, but eventually it will end, whether it’s under my control or not,” he said – a sentiment that now rings even truer as he embarks on life’s next chapter with his wife and daughter.
