The bodies of two women have been found inside a unit in the south-western Sydney suburb of Canterbury.

Police have made the grim discovery after being called to a home on Canterbury Road, near Dibbs Street, following a concern for welfare on the morning of the 7th of June.

The women are believed to be sisters aged in their 20s but are yet to be formally identified.

“A crime scene was established, which will be examined by specialist forensic police, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths commenced,” NSW Police said in a statement.

It is understood the bodies had been left undiscovered for quite some time. Forensic experts and officers were seen at the apartment complex throughout the afternoon and well into the evening investigating.

One neighbour said she was incredibly disturbed by the news and that it was unusual for crime to occur in the building.

“It’s scary to sort of know that this is what is happening in your own complex,” she said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
