The small mining town of Blackwater has been in a state of panic after Nathan Turner, 30, passed away while having COVID-19.
Locals are confused as to how he got the disease as he hadn’t left the town since February, but it has since been revealed that he threw a party despite displaying symptoms for three weeks.
Mr Turner threw a party at his home for his fiancée Simone Devon three days before he passed.
Ms Devon previously displayed symptoms for COVID-19, but tested negative.
Health officials were quick to track down people who had been in close contact with Mr Turner, and of those 20 people who were tested, 18 had negative results. The other two people are waiting for their test results.
Member for Gregory Lachlan Millar has admitted anxiety levels in the small mining town are high and called for calm.
“There are a lot of people pointing fingers at the moment, but that isn’t the right way to go about it,” Mr Millar said on Thursday.
Locals are now queuing to get tested for COVID-19 as authorities try to contain a potential outbreak.
