Billy Joel performed for the first time since revealing he was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder.
The legendary singer-songwriter surprised concert-goers in Florida with his first live performance on Friday.
Fans were expecting to see The Turnstiles, a tribute act for Billy Joel, but were delighted when the Piano Man himself showed up.
“I wasn’t planning on working tonight,” Joel told the crowd.
The 76-year-old music legend appeared alongside his daughters Della and Remy, and started with a special performance of We Didn’t Start The Fire. He then continued with a performance of his signature tune, Piano Man.
Joel had cancelled all his shows last May after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a rare neurological disease affecting his walking and cognitive function. He previously opened up about how he has been forgetting lyrics for years.
Hugs and handshakes followed after his stunning performance, with the tribute band’s frontman telling the ecstatic crowd: “Ladies and gentlemen, please give it up for my idol, Mr Billy Joel”.
