A billionaire has pledged a major donation to the man hailed as a hero of the Bondi terror attack, after his actions were credited with saving lives during Sunday night’s violence.

Local fruit shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, has been widely praised for confronting one of the attackers during the mass shooting at Bondi Beach

Ahmed is seen in video footage sneaking up behind, Sajid Akram, in Bondi park as he fires his weapon. The father of two then tackles the alleged gunman, wrapping his right arm around the Sajid’s shoulder and wresting the rifle from his grip.

Sajid then falls to the ground as Ahmed points the weapon at him, before the attacker runs from the scene.

Ahmed was shot twice a short time later and underwent surgery at St George Hospital. He is believed to be in a stable condition.

Sajid, who carried out the assault alongside his 24-year-old son Naveed, was shot dead at the scene, while his son remains in hospital in a critical condition and under police guard.

Ahmed’s actions have been credited with preventing further loss of life and have drawn international attention, including praise from US President Donald Trump.

“A very brave person actually who went and attacked frontally one of the shooters and saved a lot of lives. A very brave person who is right now in the hospital and seriously wounded,” the US President said.

“Great respect to the man who did that.”

The bravery shown by Ahmed has also caught the attention of billionaire investor Bill Ackman, a Jewish investment banker worth more than $9.5 billion, who has publicly called for him to be financially supported.

“Can someone please set up a verified so we can reward him and his family,” the billionaire wrote on Instagram.

Following that call, a GoFundMe page has been established titled Support the hero who disarmed the Bondi attacker, with donations pouring in from around the world.
