Much-loved Seven foreign affairs commentator Dr Keith Suter has died at the age of 77.

The respected expert, known for his ability to distil complex global events for the network, reportedly passed away in hospital. 

No additional details have been released.

Suter held three doctorates and chaired multiple international bodies, cementing his standing as one of Australia’s most recognisable and authoritative foreign-policy voices. 

Over decades on air, he became a trusted source for viewers seeking clarity on world affairs, earning a reputation for factual, measured analysis rather than rhetoric.

Announcing the news on Facebook, 7NEWS said Suter was “being remembered as a trusted voice on some of the most complex stories in the world.”

Public tributes have continued to grow, reflecting the widespread sadness at his passing.

“A significant loss to quality sober commentary on international affairs. Always enjoyed and very much valued his assessments,” one viewer wrote on Facebook.

“Very sad, quite liked listening to him talk about different topics that were happening around the world,” another said.

A third commenter added, “He always spoke in layman terms and made so much sense when it came to world affairs. A real loss.”

On X, another tribute read, “Condolences. He was a very well spoken, knowledgeable man.”
