Barnaby Joyce will leave the Nationals.
The former Deputy Prime Minister announced with a “heavy heart” that he will leave the party during a speech in the House of Representatives on Thursday, amid rumours that he will jump switch and join Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party.
Joyce first announced his intention to leave the party last month, claiming that there has been a rift among the Nationals leaders and frustrations over the party’s net-zero policy, which it has since dumped.
On Monday, Joyce and Hanson had dinner together, enjoying a wagyu steak along with red wine, salad and a berry pie.
This comes after the One Nation leader promised to cook for Joyce is he considered defecting to her party.
The dinner followed Hanson’s latest controversial stunt where she entered the upper house wearing a burqa, and was later suspended from the Senate for seven sitting days.
