Australia Post has reinstated weekend delivery services in the lead-up to Christmas, with the organisation also announcing its final postage dates as the holiday rush begins.

Temporary Saturday and Sunday deliveries will operate across all metropolitan capitals and selected regional centres to help manage the surge in parcel volumes over the festive period.

The service will offer “added flexibility for customers and helping ensure timely arrival of parcels”.

Australia Post Executive General Manager Gary Starr said the additional services would help accommodate a “spike in parcel volumes”.

Starr said AusPost has “brought on thousands of additional team members and expanded our delivery options – including more self-service parcel lockers and extended post office trading hours – to make collecting parcels easier than ever.”

He added that almost 103 million parcels were delivered nationwide during November and December 2024.

“We’re ready to go even bigger this holiday season. Weekend deliveries are just one of the ways Australia Post is stepping up to support our customers during the busiest time of the year,” he said.

To ensure parcels arrive by Christmas, Australia Post advises sending items by Monday, December 22 for same-state deliveries and Friday, December 19 for interstate deliveries.

Express Post items should be sent by Tuesday, December 23.

For Parcel Post items lodged over the counter, a 2.30pm cut-off applies.

Senders posting to or from Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Tasmania, or regional and remote areas are advised to allow additional time.

International cut-off dates vary by destination and service type, with recommended dates available on Australia Post’s website.

Australia Post notes that parcels sent after the cut-off dates will be delivered as quickly as possible, but may not arrive before Christmas.

Items sent from South Australia, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory must travel interstate before leaving the country, which can extend delivery times.
