Australian Olympic medallist Mariafe Artacho del Solar and husband Jack Curtin have welcomed their first child.
Del Solar, announced her pregnancy in February, and on Saturday celebrated the safe arrival of her son, Luka Michael Curtin.
“We love you so much our darling boy!” the couple shared on Instagram.
The happy announcement sparked an outpouring of love from Australia’s Olympic community.
“He’s finally here!! Congratulations. Luka is gorgeous,” swimmer Shayna Jack wrote.
Gen Gregson, who recently welcomed her second child, added, “Beautiful, congrats guys.”
New dad Cam McEvoy said, “Congratulations!!!”
“Beautiful!! Congratulations guys,” Channel 7’s Abbey Holmes, who also recently welcomed her first child added.
Del Solar and Curtin tied the knot just over a year after the Tokyo Olympics.
Del Solar reached the beach volleyball final at the Tokyo Olympics four years ago with long-time teammate Taliqua Clancy, winning a silver medal and ending Australia’s 21-year medal drought in the sport.
She almost took home the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Although she was eager to make a comeback at Los Angeles 2028, she set her sporting plans aside this year.
Despite putting her plans on hold this year, Del Solar shared her desire to compete in future Olympics at the close of the Paris 2024 campaign.
“I’ve always wanted to make it to five Olympics, finishing at home in Brisbane,” she said.
“So I’d love to come back for it. We’ll see what life has in store.”
