When it comes to coffee, Aussies don’t muck around – and now, we’ve got the global bragging rights to prove it.
Melbourne’s own Jack Simpson has officially been crowned the world’s best barista, taking out first place at the 2025 World Barista Championships in Italy.
Jack told Today he’s still wrapping his head around the victory, saying it hasn’t quite sunk in that he just beat the best coffee makers on the planet – including the Europeans.
Going up against elite baristas from across the globe, Jack brewed, frothed and poured his way to victory, one perfect cup at a time.
And for those wondering what separates a world champion coffee from your average morning brew, Jack revealed his top tip.
“If you’re making coffee at home, fresh coffee is always best,” he said.
“So, you know, if you go down to your local roaster and get coffee from them, it’s got to be miles better than coffee that you could buy at the supermarket – that would be my number one tip.”
Simple advice, but coming from the world’s best, it’s basically gospel. So if you needed another reason to ditch the instant stuff – consider this your sign.
