Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been evicted from Royal Lodge in a covert, late-night operation.

The former Duke of York, who was stripped of his royal titles in October and directed to leave the Windsor residence, has moved to the King’s private Sandringham estate.

The relocation comes days after the release of millions of documents known as the Jeffrey Epstein files, including one that contained a photo showing Andrew on all fours leaning over an unnamed woman.

According to The Sun, the 65-year-old was driven from Royal Lodge in Windsor to Sandringham on Monday night in darkness to avoid being seen.

He is currently residing at Wood Farm, a temporary property on the Norfolk estate, while renovations continue at Marsh Farm, where he is expected to move later.

Wood Farm was previously the retirement home of his father, the late Prince Philip.

Andrew had originally been expected to vacate Royal Lodge before Easter in April.

A source told the newspaper that Andrew had sought to remain at the Windsor property for longer, but said the latest developments made his departure unavoidable.

“But with the latest batch of Epstein files it was made clear to him that it was time to go,” the source said.

“Leaving was so humiliating for him that he chose to do it under the cover of darkness,” the source added.

“Theoretically he could have stayed until Marsh Farm was ready but the headlines were only getting worse.

“Also, the fact he’s been seen driving around Windsor laughing and looking like he hasn’t a care in the world hasn’t gone down well with the Royal Household.”

Earlier on Monday, Andrew was photographed smiling and waving as he rode a horse on the Windsor estate.

His departure from Royal Lodge is likely to be viewed as a small victory for the royal household and the King, who has reportedly been seeking his younger brother’s removal from the property for several years.

Andrew had been widely regarded as resisting pressure to vacate the 31-bedroom Grade II-listed residence.

He was previously rumoured to have been offered Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan, which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex renovated following their wedding in 2018.

However, after Andrew’s former wife Sarah Ferguson was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and again in 2024, the Yorks were permitted to remain at Royal Lodge for longer.

It remains unclear where Ferguson will relocate. She has lived with Andrew at the Windsor property since 2008.
