Hugh Jackman has surprised a bar full of patrons in Paris, delighting the crowd with an impromptu singalong to Neil Diamond’s classic Sweet Caroline.
In a video posted to Instagram, the 57-year-old actor is seen belting out the song as the bar sings along to the famous trumpet section.
Jackman looked thrilled as everyone joined in, even grabbing the phone from the person filming to show the scene from his perspective.
“An Aussie walks into a bar … in Paris. Then this happened,” he captioned the clip.
Fans were quick to share their excitement, saying the surprise was typical of the Aussie star.
“Normal, this charming Aussie loves to sing and make people happy, happy to see him like this again ❤️,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Great job at singing, 👏 Doing great, have a good time around there…👍🎙️💥”
Others joked about his showmanship, referencing his popular movie The Greatest Showman with one fan writing: “what a great showman he might be the greatest,” one fan wrote.
“If you don’t sing along to Sweet Caroline are you even Hughman,” another quipped.
One comment summed up the reaction: “Give that man a 🎤 and a stage and there’s no stopping him.”
Jackman revealed that the surprise performance was part of a promotion for his new film, Song Sung Blue, which he stars alongside Kate Hudson. The pair play Mike and Claire Sardina, members of a Neil Diamond tribute act called Lightning & Thunder.
The actor also used the film’s Hollywood premiere last month to make his relationship with actress Sutton Foster red-carpet official. The pair, who have known each other for years through musical theatre and previously co-starred on Broadway in The Music Man, walked the carpet in matching black outfits.
Jackman, who separated from Deborra-lee Furness in 2023, and Foster have stayed quiet about their relationship, though the pair were photographed holding hands and later kissing in Los Angeles in January.
