Patti Newton has given a sweet new update of her husband Bert, as they adjust to their new “standard of normal”.
The TV legend, who graced Australian screens for decades, has just undergone a major live-saving surgery and had his leg amputated.
In typical Newton fashion, Patti has given an adorable update along with a darling photograph of Bert with his granddaughter.
“I wanted to show you Bert’s doing ok,” Patti wrote on Instagram.
“Spending time with his darling Lola. And taking a day at a time. A long journey but he’s blessed with so much love.”
Patti ended the sweet post with a love heart.
82-year-old Bert had no choice but to amputate his leg after suffering “serious health problems”.

Sadly, it all stemmed from an infected toe that began to cause problems before Christmas time.
Patti said the family would adjust to a “new normal” and Bert had made a “choice to live”, to reporters outside of hospital.
She revealed Bert’s words were “Let’s do this with a positive attitude.”
Patti first shared a picture of Bert on May 12, smiling in bed with his grandson Alby.
“Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and beautiful words.” Patti wrote.
She also went on to joke: “Think Alby has stolen Bert’s hair piece x.”

Bert said had been overwhelmed by the love from fans, friends, and family.
“This is my first week and I seem to be getting through it,” he said.
“The amount of care and love I’ve received from everyone has been overwhelming.
“All I want to say is thank you to everyone.”
Patti says her husband is more committed to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren Sam, Eva, Lola, Monty, Perla and Alby.
“He has so much to live for and he will do his utmost to make this work,” Patti said.
