Australia’s most infamous breakfast duo has imploded in spectacular fashion, with Jackie O Henderson quitting the Kyle and Jackie O Show and Kyle Sandilands suspended as their decades-long partnership collapses live and in public.

The radio industry has been left reeling after the shock announcement that Henderson has officially walked away from the juggernaut program, while Sandilands has been benched “until further notice” following what the Australian Radio Network (ARN) has described as “serious misconduct”.

The dramatic downfall follows a bitter on-air clash on February 20 that played out in real time before thousands of stunned listeners. What began as a tense exchange quickly escalated into a deeply personal attack, with Sandilands accusing his co-host of being “unfocused” and “almost unworkable” due to her interest in astrology.

“Your fixation on this has made you almost unworkable,” he said. “You are off with the fairies with this sh*t. It’s mental.”

A visibly shaken Henderson fired back: “I totally am offended by you saying something like that.”

But Sandilands doubled down. “Well too bad … It’s too much. It’s affecting everything else. You’re too fixated on it. Every segment, every time you’ve spoken, you don’t even know what’s going on.”

Listeners could hear Henderson fighting back tears as she told her co-host she could not believe he would criticise her like that on air.

“I would never say things like that about you,” she said. “It’s a total attack … to say, ‘you don’t know what the F is going on, you’re not doing your job,’ that’s an attack and I wouldn’t do that.”

The remainder of the broadcast was icy and fractured. By Monday, Henderson had announced she would take a week off to “gather her thoughts”. That week became two. A sick day from Sandilands followed. Rumours swirled. Radio bosses scrambled behind the scenes.

Now the silence has been broken – and it’s final.

In a statement, ARN confirmed Henderson’s departure and revealed Sandilands has been formally notified that his conduct constitutes a breach of contract.

“ARN has provided written notice to Mr Kyle Sandilands and Quasar Media Services Pty Ltd stating that it considers that Mr Sandilands’ behaviour during the show on 20 February 2026 is an act of serious misconduct which is in breach of ARN’s services agreement,” the statement read.

Sandilands has been given 14 days to “remedy” the breach. If he fails to do so, ARN will terminate its agreement with Quasar Media, effectively ending his tenure on the show.

“During the 14-day period, Mr Sandilands will not take part in the show.”

What exactly “remedying” the situation entails remains unclear.

Earlier in the statement, ARN confirmed it had offered Henderson “the possibility of an alternative show on the ARN Network” – a sign the broadcaster is keen to retain one half of its once unshakeable duo.

For years, Kyle and Jackie O were considered untouchable – shock-jock royalty who survived scandals, boycotts and fierce criticism. But this time, the fracture appears beyond repair.

Online, reaction has been swift and brutal.

“About time,” one person wrote beneath a social media announcement of the news. “The only thing surprising here is that it took so long,” another commented. “Hopefully this means the end of Kyle on the radio altogether too.”

“Now to make sure Kyle is never ever allowed back on air,” a third added.

After decades side by side, one of Australia’s most polarising partnerships has detonated in public. Now, the industry waits to see whether Sandilands can salvage his career – and what Henderson’s next chapter will look like without him.
