After 12 years patrolling one of Australia’s busiest beaches, Bondi Rescue star Harrison Reid has announced he is wrapping up his role as a lifeguard at Bondi.

Reid, 31, shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday, describing the end of his long-running stint as the “best chapter of my life”.

“Not many people get to say they landed their dream job at 18 and lived it for 12 years. Turning up to work each day with your best mates, never knowing what the day would throw at you, who would knock on the tower door, when the emergency phone would ring, or who would end up in a rip and need help,” Reid reflected.

“I watched my mates do incredible things and save countless lives. It was a privilege and an honour to wear the blue shirt a young me once dreamed about.

“I’ve seen thousands of stunning Bondi sunrises and sunsets, witnessed the best in humanity, and also the horrific and confronting situations only frontline personnel truly understand.”

Reid said wearing the iconic blue shirt had been a privilege, thanking paramedics, police, volunteers and the Bondi locals he worked alongside.

“To my parents, thank you for letting me chase my dream from day one,” he added.

“Finally, to all the lifeguards I worked with past and present… thank you. It was the best chapter of my life. The busy days, the trips away, and the after-work debriefs at The Bucket List and the hangovers.

“I’m lucky to have made friends for life, and I know Bondi is in safe hands.”

His colleagues were quick to post their well-wishes as he moves into his next chapter.

“Bondi is a little less colourful and Uber Eats is going broke without you. What an impact you made on the lifeguard service and the community. Love you brother Reid,” lifeguard Andy Reid wrote.

“Honoured to share the tower with you mate. Countless people are here today because of you. One of the best,” colleague Anthony Glick said.

“Bruv one of the best to put the blue shirt on, Geez we had some good times love ya brother,” Bondi Rescue veteran Trent Maxwell added.

In a separate post, Maxwell said he would miss having Reid on the beach but was looking forward to “ripping in” for his 19th season.

Reid also appeared on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2025, where he finished eighth.

Bondi Rescue, produced by Network 10 and following the work of Waverley Council lifeguards, first aired in 2006 and has since won six Logie Awards for Most Popular Factual Program.
