Neighbours fans are stoked after an unexpected discovery in a Melbourne op shop gave them the chance to own a piece of Aussie TV history.

Shopper Rebecca Brewin was browsing the This N That Community Op Shop in Forest Hill when she stumbled upon a stash of props from the iconic TV show, including school bags, uniforms, and even Karl Kennedy’s iconic briefcase.

“I’ve seen some stuff in my time at the op shop, but I have never seen anything like this,” Brewin said.

“Everything that you could possibly imagine from the fictitious area of Erinsborough.”

Shop owner Michelle revealed the store had recently received three van loads of donations from someone who had worked on the long-running soap opera.

The items, which include character licences, Lassiters Spa keyrings, and Neighbours-themed umbrellas, had been tucked away in storage.

The discovery has sparked a frenzy among fans, with crowds forming outside the shop over the weekend and calls coming in from as far as the UK and New Zealand.

The Neighbours props haven’t been sold just yet, and the most popular items are set to go under the hammer at a special auction, with the date still to be announced.

“(It’s) absolutely a piece of Australian TV history,” Brewin said.

Neighbours first aired in 1985 and ran for more than 40 years, following the lives of residents on Ramsay Street.

It was briefly cancelled in 2022 before being revived by Amazon, which then pulled the plug again this year.
