It’s not every day Victoria Police officers moonlight as DoorDash drivers, but one late-night McDonald’s order in Melbourne ended up with a very unexpected delivery crew.

Dylan Collins had placed a 2am order – a Filet-O-Fish, McChicken, large fries and a large Coke – when his phone rang with an unusual update.

“I got a phone call from the DoorDash driver,” Collins said.

“He mentioned that he got pulled over by an unmarked car and he couldn’t drop the food off.”

The driver had been stopped by two police officers in Pakenham, who discovered his vehicle was unregistered. Collins’ midnight feast looked doomed – until the officers decided to go above and beyond.

“Thankfully enough, the police, with all the stress they have across Melbourne, absolutely crazy at the moment, they decided to go out of their way and drop off McDonald’s for me,” Collins said.

The pair made the 10-minute trip to Collins’ door, delivering the fast food with a side of good humour.

DoorDash later issued Collins a full refund, meaning his order arrived courtesy of the police – and on the house.

As for the quality control? Collins was honest, “The chips were a bit cold and soggy, but I still ate them anyway.”

He said the officers deserved credit for their efforts. “I think they might deserve a McDonald’s break,” he added, giving them a five-star rating for service.

And to the original driver, Collins had one final piece of advice, “The delivery driver and yourself, you need to get your car registered.”
