Nicole Kidman has officially filed for divorce from Keith Urban, just a day after news of their separation became public.

Court filings reveal that the Oscar-winning actress, 58, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. Despite the breakup, the couple will share joint responsibility for their two teenage daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.

The divorce marks the end of one of Hollywood’s most admired marriages. Kidman and Urban, who wed in 2006, were long celebrated for their enduring love story, making the news all the more shocking for fans.

Sources close to the couple say that relentless work schedules played a major role in the relationship’s unravelling. Urban, 57, has been on tour for much of the year, while Kidman has juggled back-to-back film commitments, leaving little time for intimacy.

“Keith never sees Nicole – either she is filming or he is on tour,” one insider told the Daily Mail. “There was a lot of love between the two… but the way things are now, they are not a couple.”

It has been reported that Urban was the one to initiate the separation, expressing his unhappiness and confronting Kidman about the lack of closeness in their marriage. “The intimacy isn’t there, they are just going through the motions,” the source added.

Urban is understood to have quietly moved into separate accommodation in Nashville while Kidman remains at the family home with their daughters. A source told People magazine that those close to the pair were “not surprised”, claiming the two had effectively been living apart for some time.

“People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable,” the insider said.

Kidman has reportedly leaned on her family during the breakup, with her younger sister Antonia described as her “rock”.

The couple’s split has come as a blow to fans who have long viewed their marriage as one of Hollywood’s strongest. Over the years, both stars spoke openly about their love and support for one another, with Urban crediting Kidman for helping him through rehab just months after their wedding.

“I was very, very blessed to have Nic call an intervention on me,” Urban told Rolling Stone in 2014, calling their marriage the “miracle” that saved him.

In 2016, he described their union as life-defining: “Meeting her and getting married wasn’t life-changing, it was life-beginning.”

Urban’s emotional tributes continued as recently as Kidman’s AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony, where he praised her capacity to “always choose love.”

TMZ was first to report news of their split earlier this week, citing multiple sources who confirmed the couple had been drifting apart for months.

“Sometimes relationships just run their course,” a source told Page Six, adding that Kidman “did not want the separation and was trying to save things.”

As the pair navigate their next chapter, those close to them suggest the door to reconciliation may not be completely closed. “They’ve been together for decades,” one source said. “There is a world where they can reconcile, but right now, they are not a couple.”
