Karl Stefanovic will receive $2 million for just a week’s work when he returns to Channel 9 in his first TV gig this year, an insider has claimed.

A source told the  Sunday Telegraph  that Stefanovic, who landed a $6 million three-year deal with the network in 2015, could receive this  pay for just one week of taping work for the reality program  This Time Next Year.

While Stefanovic is set to  begin filming  the reality TV show  on February 26 at Sydney’s Fox Studios, no other hosting arrangement has been announced for him so far on the network.

“Nine are yet to announce what else they’ll do with Karl this year, so as of now, he’s getting an eye-watering $2 million for one week’s work,” the insider said. “It’s good if you can get it.”

Last month, a Channel 9 insider told the  Daily Telegraph  that the network management wants Stefanovic “gone” after filming the program. However, a Nine media spokeswoman denied the claim, insisting that the network was hoping to continue working with Stefanovic throughout 2019.

The 44-year-old was dumped  from Channel 9’s  Today  show late last year after 14 years of hosting the breakfast program.

Nine’s national director of news and current affairs Darren Wick confirmed in December that “Karl remains on contract with the network and will continue to host  This Time Next Year, which records in February.”

His $6 million contract has made Stefanovic one of Australia’s highest paid television stars, ahead of  Sunrise’s David Koch who reportedly receives $1 million per year.
