Kate Langbroek has shared updates on her family as they remain in lockdown inside their apartment in the Italian city of Bologna amid the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.

The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Italy reached 2,502 as of Wednesday, with the death toll climbing to 79.

The Australian radio presenter revealed her four children are currently being home-schooled as many places, including educational institutions and museums, have been shut.

In three videos shared through her Instagram stories on Tuesday Australian time, Langbroek showed her children doing their schoolwork in various rooms of their residence with the caption: “Home school. Day two of coronavirus lockdown.”

Langbroek also shared a photo of the view of Piazza Maggiore, the city’s central square.

“Since I moved to Bologna last January, I have never seen the main piazza so empty,” she wrote. “There is no panic here; the shelves are stocked, but the restaurants are empty and the streets are quiet.”

In late February, the 54-year-old shared in an Instagram video that popular tourist destination Venice was “a bit quieter than normal”.

Langbroek and husband Peter Allen Lewis had travelled to the city from Bologna to see the Venice Carnival, which was eventually cancelled over coronavirus concerns.

“Walking through Venice… it was like a ghost town last night, even though there were still Carnival events on during the day,” she told Hughesy and Ed.

Langbroek moved her family of six from Melbourne to Bologna in January 2019.
