Prince Philip has released a rare statement to the public amid the coronavirus pandemic while he remains in lockdown at Windsor Castle with Queen Elizabeth.

The 98-year-old Duke of Edinburgh issued a heartfelt message at the start of World Immunisation Week to “recognise the vital and urgent work being done by so many to tackle the pandemic; by those in the medical and scientific professions, at universities and research institutions, all united in working to protect us from COVID-19.

“On behalf of those of us who remain safe and at home, I also wanted to thank all key workers who ensure the infrastructure of our life continues; the staff and volunteers working in food production and distribution, those keeping postal and delivery services going, and those ensuring the rubbish continues to be collected.”

The entirety of the royal family have heavily involved themselves in the COVID-19 crisis, including Prince Charles, 71, who spent a week in isolation after being diagnosed with the infection.

The Queen made an effort to broadcast an extremely rare message to the country, making it the fifth time in history she has ever gotten in front of the camera.

Her Majesty also cancelled a gun salute that would have marked her 94th birthday on April 21.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have made an active effort to support frontline workers and their students in schools.

Megan and Harry, who split from the royal family less than one month ago and are currently residing in Los Angeles, were pictured delivering food to healthcare workers.
