Pauline Hanson has called for a ban on all hate symbols, including the swastika and the ISIS flag.

The One Nation leader has called on Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to start working on creating laws the prohibit the use of global hate symbols, labelling their meaning as “insulting”.

“I think it’s intimidating,” she said.

“Australians do not like racism and they do not like hatred.”

Senator Hanson’s past is not clean, however. She claimed in 1996 during her maiden speech to parliament that Australia was in danger of being “swamped by Asians.”

When she entered the Senate in 2016, the politician called for a halt to Muslim immigration and the banning of the burqa.

Civil libertarians have argued banning hate symbols could have dangerous consequences on freedom of speech.

“The fact is, freedom of speech in a free society means that you have to cop some images, such as those flags, that you find personally offensive,” lawyer Terry O’Gorman told  9News.
