A search has started for a rogue driver who hit a mother pushing her toddler in a pram in Melbourne’s northwest.
On Sunday, May 16 at about 8.45pm, Sarah was walking home from dinner with her husband on Mt Alexander Road in Ascot Vale when the car was speeding towards her.
“My husband’s face, he turned around and was like shouting at me to run,” she told reporters on Wednesday.
“I turned and looked and it was too late.”
When the car struck her, the 34-year-old nurse was pushing their two-year-old son in a stroller with her husband.
“My husband and son luckily were in front of me, and just made it off the road,” Sarah said.
After the crash, the car sped away.
“I was just really shocked and just had this unbelievable pain in my leg,” she said.
Acting Senior Sergeant Dean Pickering said the driver was clearly going “well above the speed limit”.
The stretch of road in Ascot Vale is a hotspot for accidents, with local worker Hayley Marks saying she witnesses accidents at least once a week.
Witnesses to Sarah’s accident described the car involved as a small dark-coloured hatchback which may now have a dent in it from the impact.
Anyone who has any information or footage that could assist police with their inquiries have been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
