When a 41-year-old anti-masker argued with a member of staff at a local South Australian supermarket, an innocent shopper standing next to him tried to help – and instead ended up being pushed violently to the ground by the anti-masker.

Video footage shows the disturbing incident unfolding at Drakes Supermarket at Aldinga Beach, south of Adelaide.

The CCTV footage shows the way the 41-year-old anti-masker launched his cowardly attack, shoving the Good Samaritan in the chest and sending him stumbling backwards before crashing to the floor.

A few minutes before this, the anti-masker can be seen jumping the queue before a staff member challenges him about not wearing a mask.

He then becomes angry and abusive so the innocent Good Samaritan steps in – pointing to boxes of face masks for sale behind the counter.

This only makes the anti-masker angrier and he starts yelling and pushing, allegedly pushing the innocent shopper to the ground.

Another shopper who saw the whole incident says: “That’s incredibly selfish and just unnecessary.”

“Why would he push him?” they added.

After reviewing the security video footage, police have arrested the 41-year-old Aldinga Beach man earlier this week.

He’s been charged with assault, disorderly behaviour and failing to comply with a direction.

As well as allegedly refusing to wear a mask, the CCTV footage shows him failing to use the QR Code check-in on arrival.

He has been released on bail and will face Christies Beach Magistrates Court next month.
