Investigations are underway after a prominent underworld figure was shot dead on Wednesday night.
Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad was found with multiple gun wounds to his body outside a home on Narelle Crescent, Greenacre in Sydney’s west.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to revive him.
He was declared dead at the scene with the gunman still on the run.
A black Porsche sedan and black BMW were found burnt out in Greenacre and nearby suburb Belmore.
Police are investigating whether they are related to the shooting.
Mahmoud had only recently returned from Lebanon despite knowing there was a $1 million bounty on his head by a fellow underworld figure.
He had escaped to Lebanon after his brother Walid “Wally” Ahmad was shot dead in April 2016 outside Bankstown Centro Shopping Centre.
Walid’s death came just weeks after he shot dead Safwan Charbaji in the head and chest while he was driving in Condell Park.
The two deaths caused a bigger rife between the underworld figures which eventually saw Mahmoud flee to Lebanon for safety.
