Gus Lamont’s grandmother has revealed a new theory into the young boy’s disappearance, almost one year after he went missing.
The then four-year-old Gus was last spotted playing near his family’s remote cattle station in Yunta on September 27 2025.
In the lead up to the anniversary of his disappearance, his grandmother Josie Murray, spoke to 7News to share her theory that he has been abducted.
“It brings me to tears that he is not here,” Murray said.
“As far as I’m concerned I still want to know the answer of what happened.”
Murray claims that police have named her as the sole suspect in the case and have ruled out other theories into his disappearance, however she maintains her innocence.
“I think he has to have been taken – nothing else makes sense,” she said.
Gus’ disappearance sparked the largest search operation in South Australian history, involving police officers, Aboriginal trackers and community volunteers.
Since his disappearance, police have returned to the remote cattle station on separate occasions but have yet to find answers.
In a previous interview with Spotlight, Murray denied having any involvement in her grandson’s disappearance.
“They’ve said they don’t think I’ve hurt him, they think that I’ve buried him – that’s one of the theories they’re working on,” said at the time.
“For so many reasons it’s ludicrous. It doesn’t make sense. Why would you do that to yourself?”
